Plymouth, Massachusetts - Mayflower - Plymouth Rock - Harbor - Frozen-Themed Fun Pack

I brought my granddaughter to Plymouth, Massachusetts, to play with the cameras and get some pizza for supper. She has the silliest grin for a smile. This is the updated Brewster Park, across the street from the waterfront and Town Brook runs through it. Most of the photos you see today will be what she photoed.
We did stop at a cemetery in Middleboro. She was surprised how many babies were buried.

This cemetery is in Plymouth and butts Fort Hill. She knew the slated stones were old and that some were our ancestors.
Powder House replica on Fort Hill.
A wonderful man who owns an antique shop, I should have caught the name of it, let her photo everything in the store.
She photoed this.....
And I turned it into this!
Town Brook
Nice catch!
Immigrant Sculpture to welcome everyone.
William Bradford. He held seat as town counsel along with our ancestor, J. Hall, in Plymouth Colony.
Wamsutta, from the Wampanoag tribe. He was friendly with William Bradford.
Mayflower and first settler's homes, all replicas. The Mayflower had a huge overhaul less than a year ago.
The infamous 1620 Plymouth Rock.
The harbor. You can go whale watching, deep sea fishing, harbor tours or stay on land and along this strip are hotels, restaurants and gift shops of all types. There are 3 free community parking areas or you can pay by the hour with the parking meters along here. Swimming is available up the road as well as campgrounds. I think she did a good job with her photos. I hope some day she will be better than me.

Myles Standish State Forest Hike - Outdoor Scrabble - Eastern Hog-Nosed Snake - Fowler's Toad

Back to Myles Standish State Forest, Massachusetts for Dog Hike Sunday, June 3, 2014. Today no one had a GPS, sadly I don't own one myself, so I don't know how many miles we did but it was more of a long day than miles. The group was a bit large, about 10 people and some 8 dogs, so it caused a lot of delays with dogs taking off, people chatting and constantly stopping. It was mild 70F but with the sun blazing and while trudging along you sure get heated up. I wore shorts, short sleeves and summer hiking boots. It went from easy fire roads such as this one to bushwhacking with trails seldom used.
I must give credit to Sal R. for taking this photo. He caught Kaiya while she was still white. About an hour later we left this smelly pond and she was very black due to rotting growth in the water. We came across many stagnant ponds and vernal pools. The dogs had a blast and they didn't care about the smell at all. I am behind all the people in-between some shrubs chatting with another adventurer.
This is a plushier area. This is in the wild life area where people are allowed to hunt. We just got done with bushwhacking and I got 3 dozen ticks off of Kaiya and me, that is 6 dozen ticks, deer and dog. Plain disgusting. Actually I was still taking the nymphs off of her 4 days later. I need to buy her a new tick collar. Her's recently stopped working. It last almost 8 months just as stated. I think we will stay away from the woods until she gets a collar and a Lyme Disease inoculation. I was using my point and shoot Kodak EasyShare C182, a gosh awful camera. See the rainbow effect on the bottom corner. It has a defect. Time to upgrade to a Panasonic.
Fowler's Toad

I found this little guy, dead, bird may have dropped it. This is an Eastern Hog-Nose. They can grow up to 4 feet, live up to 12 years and enjoy toads and mice. They are not endangered in the United States but are a threatened species in Canada and are illegal to keep as pets.

Kaiya was very naughty during this hike which was over 4 miles but under 10 miles. We was out for 7 hours and she took off several times and often wouldn't come when called. She wanted to find the horses as many people were horseback riding on this day. So with her behavior and my arm being in a splint it was a very long, hot and stressful day as I kept her on lead during much of the time and she just pulled continuously.

Backyard Scrabble: There are 144 "tiles". You will need. 2: J, K, Q, X, Z 3: B, C, F, H, M, P, V, W, Y 4: G 5: L 6: D, S, U 8: N 9: T, R 11: O 12: I 13: A 18: E

We hope you enjoyed today's blog. My typing is getting better with each key stroke. I still have close to 4 weeks to go with my splint. I mainly use it when I am moving around outside of my home just in case I trip, a dog trips me or I forget and pick up something heavy.

Have a great day!

Hiking Myles Standish State Forest, Massachusetts - Constellation Keychain Activity Kit May 29, 2014

Kaiya is now a year old. She sure doesn't act like it very often.
Ok, I get it, high energy dog. But with my fractured arm and her pulling me like we are a sleigh team, (still), just isn't working. So I thought I would have a different approach with her aft I caught her digging along the fish pond. I would speak to her. First she ignores me and I tell her to listen up and look at me when I speak to her and you see were this got me, yep, a big boring yawn and she went and took a nap under a bush. We have been trying clicker training, works only when she wants the treat. Have tried letting her go hungry so she will earn her food, she doesn't care as she knows she will be fed sooner or later. I don't have the $75-$150 per hour for private training, tears.
I am into week 6 with this fractured arm and this blog is the first time I am typing with all my fingers. It took me 7 hours to write the last 2 blogs with 1 finger. My arm still aches some and it is still bruised and I don't know why nor do I have a doctor to speak to. The ortho I saw has a beyond poor bedside manner so I will not be going back. My fingers are swelled from the 4 mile hike.
I goofed and didn't write the man's name who shared his GPS photo of the hike so I can give him credit. Kaiya and I wished to do 2-4 more miles but didn't wish to go alone. It was lovely especially after being cooped up for a bit. We both get antsy. The weather was perfect.
Kaiya waded in New Grassy Pond, which is a bit stagnate so has a bit of odor to it. And Ellie also went on the hike. Ellie did not like Kaiya for the first mile or so but aft receiving a couple nip-tag-your it and then a body check Ellie gave in. Ellie is a little smaller and older than Kaiya.
Kaiya sure wanted the stick Ellie kept bringing into the water and in no time Kaiya was out swimming with her. Her first swim. Ellie shared the stick when she got to shore.
The trails are beautiful and you touch many different scenes and scents through the hundreds of acres. Pine, Maple, vernal pools, stagnant and swimming ponds, inexpensive camp sites, horseback trails and camp sites, tarred pathways for bicycle or wheelchair. You may find the remains of an old homestead, geo cache box, cars, furniture, hand water pumps.

Being one handed I didn't take many more photos than you see here, sadly enough.

We hope you enjoyed today's blog. My arm is a little more sore from typing but it was great stretching exercise. I have 3 blogs waiting for me to write so much more is coming. Rain is slowing coming our way so the weather is cooler, comfortable today.

Take care and Happy Trails To You,
